Two Mitzvah's in One

Two Mitzvahs in One

Yishar Koach to all of our excellent megillah readers and to our Ritual Director Gerry Gorelick for coordinating everyone! And thanks to all those who baked such delicious hamentashen!

Now that Purim is over - and - Pesach is right around the corner.  With all of the Covid-19 concerns and cancellations, I encourage you to join me in fulfilling two mitzvoth.

One of the key mitzvot of Passover is giving tzedakah to help those in need with Pesach expenses.  Please send your contributions to the synagogue and note in the memo field for our "Maot Chitim -Passover Assistance Fund."  All the money collected will directly benefit a number of families.

In addition to the annual "Maot Chitim" appeal, please see the form below with which you can empower me to act as your agent in the selling of your Chametz (leavened products). Since a Jew cannot own Chametz during Pesach, the Rabbis instituted Mechirat Chametz (the selling of Chametz). This enables us to sell valuable Chametz to a non-Jew for the duration of the holiday. Remember, it is best to rid our homes of all Chametz, but if doing so will cause a great financial loss, we can rely upon Merchirat Chametz to enable us to repossess our Chametz after Pesach. Please see the form below for details.

Chag Kasher Ve'Semeach

With Wishes for a Happy and Kosher Pesach,

Rabbi Ron Muroff

SELLING OF CHAMETZ

After you have cleaned out all other Chametz, put your remaining Chametz in a place you can secure - e.g. a closet, an extra freezer, a cupboard.

Seal it or lock it, not to be opened until after the last day of Pesach. The Chametz does not belong to you during the holiday, April 8 - 16, 2020.

Please sign the form below, empowering me, Rabbi Ron Muroff, to serve as your agent to effect the sale of your Chametz. Traditionally, a donation is enclosed, a small part of which is used for effecting the sale of Chametz. The rest will be used for Maot Chitim, tzedakah to help Jews to celebrate Pesach fully.
