The Jewish Community Foundation of Central Pennsylvania, in conjunction with the Harold Grinspoon Foundation and the Pitnick Family Fund, has developed the B’nai Tzedek program to introduce teens to the joys and pleasures of tzedakah. The B’nai Tzedek program, Hebrew for “children of justice,” teaches teens about the value and rewards of philanthropy and provides an exciting way to become involved with local Jewish agencies, organizations and synagogues.
The program enables Bar or Bat Mitzvah age and older teens in the Greater Harrisburg area to establish a grant-making endowment fund in his or her own name. This fund will support the Jewish organizations of their choice. Each participant will make a minimum contribution of $250 to establish his or her fund. The contribution will be matched by generous sponsors in the Harrisburg area, creating a $500 fund. The fund will grow through investment appreciation. Additional contributions can be made at any time.
This fund will be the youth’s personal “donor-advised” fund with the Jewish Community Foundation, enabling him or her to make a real and important impact on our Jewish community.
