Upcoming Events

Holocaust Programming in the Jewish Community

On Sunday morning, May 5, the Jewish Community will observe Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Memorial Day with a ceremony at the Holocaust Monument, Front and Sayford Streets on the riverfront in Harrisburg at 11 am.

On Sunday evening, May 5 and continuing through Monday evening, May 6, the Jewish Community commemorates Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Memorial Day, with the “Reading of Names” program to be held at Chisuk Emuna Congregation, 3219 Green Street in Harrisburg. This meaningful program will begin at 7:30 pm with an opening service led by students from the Silver Academy and congregational Religious Schools.

This will be followed by a vigil in which the names of those who perished during the Holocaust will be read continuously over a period of 24 hours.

“Unto Every Person There is a Name” seeks to dignify the memories of victims of the Shoah (the Nazi Holocaust) by reading their names aloud. These victims were stripped

of their names by their oppressors and tattooed with numbers. Through the public reading of the names of Holocaust victims, this program strives to restore a portion of their humanity and to retrieve them from the lost depths of anonymity.

For more information on the observance or to schedule a time to read names, please contact Jenna Rappaport

Through STAT, Chisuk Emuna is assisting an organization called 'Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project' because there is a huge need for blankets in the otherwise-homed population.

We are a congregation of members who possess diverse talents. Let's put them to good use.

If you wish to be involved, please contact me. If you wish to be involved but haven't a clue as to how to knit, crochet or loom, I will teach! - Natalie Damrauer
